NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas -- Canyon High head football coach and athletic coordinator Matt Elliott has resigned.

According to a Comal Independent School District news release, Elliott's resignation is "effective immediately" and he will be taking a job in the private sector.

“I really enjoyed my time at Canyon,” Elliott said. “I loved working with the kids as well as my fellow coaches and our administration. It was a tough decision to leave, but the job offer I received was too good to pass up.”

The district will now begin the process of finding a new athletic coordinator and head football coach and will hold a community input meeting on Tuesday, July 29, at 6 p.m. in the Canyon High School library. The meeting will be open to parents and community members.

“With football season approaching, we want to ensure that there is minimum impact on the players as we search for a new athletic coordinator and head football coach,” said Matt Monzingo, Comal ISD athletic Director. “Our goal is to find a high-quality individual who possesses the skills necessary to successfully lead the Canyon High School athletic program.”
