COLLEGE BASKETBALL-FINAL SCORES
UNDATED (AP) -- Four teams don't have to worry about brackets, or bubbles, or anything subjective to get into the NCAA 65-team basketball tournament. They played their way in by winning conference tournaments and earning automatic bids into the field:
-- Tiny Saint Mary's from the Bay Area upset 18th-ranked Gonzaga 81-62 to win the West Coast Conference tournament. It's the first time in 10 tournament appearances that the Gaels have beaten Gonzaga. The Zags likely are still headed back to the NCAAs, but they won't get the WCC's automatic bid for just the third time in 12 years.
-- Old Dominion beat William & Mary 60-53 in the Colonial Athletic Association title game. That sends the Monarchs into the NCAA tourney for the 10th time. William & Mary is one of five original Division I schools, along with Army, The Citadel, Northwestern and St. Francis, N.Y., never to have been included in an NCAA field.
-- Edwin Ubiles scored 27 points and Alex Franklin added 22 points and 12 rebounds as Siena rallied from a double-digit halftime deficit and beat Fairfield 72-65 in overtime Monday night to win the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament for the third straight season. Siena has won 38 straight home games, the second-longest such streak in the nation behind top-ranked Kansas, which has won 59 in a row at home.
-- In a low-scoring tussle, Wofford beat Appalachian State 56-51 in the Southern Conference title game. Cameron Rundles scored 20 points. The Terriers held Appy State to just 29 percent shooting from the field.
COLLEGE BASKETBALL-HUMMEL SURGERY
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Purdue forward Robbie Hummel has had reconstructive surgery on the ACL in his right knee.
Coach Matt Painter says the standard recovery time is 4 to 6 months.
Hummel was injured while driving to the basket on Feb. 24 against Minnesota. He ranks second on the sixth-ranked Boilermakers team with 15.7 points and 6.9 rebounds a game.
WOMEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL-UCONN
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- It's one for the record books for Tina Charles, Maya Moore and the latest Connecticut Huskies women's basketball dynasty.
Charles scored 16 points and Moore added 11 to help top-ranked Connecticut win an NCAA record 71st straight game -- a 59-44 victory over No. 6 Notre Dame in the semifinals of the Big East tournament.
UConn surpassed its own mark set from Nov. 9, 2001, to March 11, 2003. This Huskies team has thoroughly dominated its opponents in every game, winning all 71 by double digits.
Connecticut is 32-and-0. UConn will face West Virginia on Tuesday night with a chance to win its 16th Big East conference tournament championship.
UConn improved to 13-and-0 against top-10 opponents, winning by an average of 26.2 points. Even second-ranked Stanford lost by 12 when the teams met in late December.
NHL-FINAL SCORES
UNDATED (AP) -- On NHL ice, the Washington Capitals' 13-game home winning streak is history.
Marty Turco made 49 saves, Brad Richards had a goal and an assist, and the Dallas Stars scored three times in six shots early in the third period en route to a 4-3 shootout victory over the Capitals.
Washington's Alex Ovechkin snapped a season-high, six-game goal drought by scoring twice to match Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby for the league lead with 44. Ovechkin's second goal came with 3:16 left in the third period and tied the game.
But Turco stopped Ovechkin in the opening round of the shootout. The Stars went on to take it 2-1, with Richards and Loui Eriksson beating Semyon Varlamov .
The only other NHL game, the L.A. Kings scored four goals in the opening period and beat Columbus 6-0. Six different Kings scored and goalie Jonathan Quick earned his third shutout of the year.
NHL-NEWS
BOSTON (AP) -- Boston Bruins center Marc Savard has been diagnosed with a grade two concussion after being leveled by a blindside hit by Pittsburgh's Matt Cooke in Sunday's game. Bruins coach Claude Julien said after the game he considered it a "dirty hit," but no penalty was called.
NBA-FINAL SCORES
UNDATED (AP) -- With NBA All-Star LeBron James and Tony Parker sidelined, the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the San Antonio Spurs 97-95 to become the first NBA team with 50 victories. Mo Williams finished with 17 points for the Cavs, who were playing their second straight game without the injured James. The NBA's reigning MVP is nursing a tender right ankle and the Cavs are being extra cautious. Delonte West had 16 points and made a key steal in the final minute.
Manu Ginobili scored a season-high 38 points to lead the Spurs, playing their first game without guard Tony Parker. He's out six weeks with a broken hand.
In the rest of the NBA:
-- The New York Knicks beat the Atlanta Hawks for the third time this season, 99-98 when video replay showed that Al Horford's basket came after the buzzer. Danilo Gallinari scored 27 and David Lee had 19 points and 13 rebounds for the Knicks, who won for just the third time in 15 games.
-- Shawn Marion had a season-high 29 points and 14 rebounds and the Dallas Mavericks stretched the NBA's longest active winning streak to 12 straight games with a 125-112 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
-- Mike Conley and Rudy Gay had 21 points each and the Memphis Grizzlies beat the New Jersey Nets 107-101 to end their eight-game home losing streak.
-- Darren Collison had 16 points and a career-high 20 assists, and the New Orleans Hornets snapped a four-game losing streak with a 135-131 victory over Golden State.
NFL-STEELERS/ROETHLISBERGER
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (AP) -- A high-profile defense attorney hired by Ben Roethlisberger disputes a college student's claim that the Pittsburgh Steelers' quarterback sexually assaulted her at a Georgia nightclub.
The 20-year-old told police that Roethlisberger, who had been out barhopping with friends, assaulted her early Friday. Roethlisberger has not been charged.
Attorney Ed Garland says, "The facts show that there was no criminal activity. No sexual assault occurred."
Milledgeville police say they expect to interview Roethlisberger in the next several days. They say they have not taken a DNA sample from him, and he has not been charged with any crime.
NFL-EAGLES/VICK
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- A person with knowledge of the contract tells The Associated Press the Eagles will pay Michael Vick a $1.5 million roster bonus due Tuesday.
The team is buying more time -- and possibly a draft pick -- by coughing up the money. The alternative is to release him and get nothing in return.
Vick played sparingly last season after missing two years because he was imprisoned for his role in a dogfighting ring. He completed 6 of 13 passes for 86 yards and one touchdown, and ran for 95 yards and two scores.
The Eagles already have Donovan McNabb and Kevin Kolb , and Vick has said he'd prefer to go somewhere where he can be a starter.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL-NEWS
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Michigan State receivers B.J. Cunningham and Mark Dell have been sentenced to 18 months of probation and 150 hours of community service for their roles in a Nov. 22 campus fight.
Eleven current or former Michigan State football players have pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a fight with members of a campus fraternity. The nine others await sentencing.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- Boise State safety Jason Robinson has been suspended indefinitely for violating team rules.
The announcement by coach Chris Petersen came on the first day of spring drills for the Broncos, who went undefeated last year and won the Fiesta Bowl.
Robinson, a senior from Los Angeles, is a three-year letterman who made 26 tackles in 2009. He played mostly on special teams.
