A drunk driver crashes and dies after a police chase in New Braunfels. Now, police are releasing the dash cam video. On February 10th, Police say 38-year old Mark Anthony Saldivar crashed on the I-35 access road near FM 306. It was less than six minutes after he failed to pull over during a traffic stop for speeding. Investigators say his blood alcohol content was .242 and that's more than three times the legal limit.
"It was necessary to release the video primarily as a message to the public that unfortunately in a situation like this when someone does decide to drink and drive the results can be fatal," said Lt. Michael Penshorn, Police.
Paramedics at the scene tried to revive Saldivar, but he was pronounced dead shortly after the crash. Police say Saldivar's behavior gave them no choice but to give chase. After an internal review, the officers involved were cleared of any wrong doing.
