Should There be a Statewide Ban on Texting While Driving?

96.96% YES
3.03% NO

Comment: Drivers are already distracted enough with high volume traffic, road construction, alcohol, and other things. Our insurance rates are high and our automobile accidents are contributing to way too many deaths and injuries on the roads of Texas. Although I have supported Rick Perry on most things banning texting on phones while driving is not an "overreach" but a government responsibility to save lives! by David

Comment: Tell Perry to get his head out of his 3 point contact....this is an exceptionally dangerous manuever while driving. What is wrong withthe Texas legislature, that they have not made it a statewide ban to text and drive?? What color is the sky in their world? by Carol

Comment: Friday on a drive from Pleasanton to Seguin, I almost had two wrecks because of people texting. Blew my horn to get their attention and one actually gave me the one finger salute. Nice guy. by Richard

Comment: There are too many deaths from people distracted by their phones. It's dangerous and whatever the text is can wait! People who are against this would feel very different if they saw the devastation it can cause. Is it worth a txt to kill yourself or someone else? No! by Mandy

Comment: I think there should be a ban because even now I am on the bus and cars have almost wreck into the bus cause they have been messing with there cell phones ! I almost got hit by a lady at a cross walk cause she was paying more attention to a call then me crossing the street so yes I say go for just like the bus drivers are not allow to use theirs while driving I think it should go for all drivers ! by Diane

Comment: I strongly feel that texting should be banned due to recklessness and endangerment. To many drivers are just too distracted with their phones and have become a hazard to pedestrians and other drivers I personally have almost been a victim of texters. However i feel this law should apply to Everyone (Police Officers)Included. Why have laws if SAPD can't even honor them. by Jeanny

Comment: In the past I have caught myself driving off the road or almost hitting something because I was distracted with texting. I no longer indanger inocent lifes nor my family. I strongly feel using the phone period while driving should be banned, its a major distraction. by Sonya

Comment: There have been too many accidents involving texting/phone use on the roads. by Diana

Comment: there are too many people on cell phones, driving too slow, not paying attention, even in school zones, they are being used. by Donah

Comment: My life dramatically changed for the worse due to a lawyer on a cell phone. I lost my life as i knew while he lost a few hrs and measley $$. Settlement was a joke @time when cell phn use while driving wasnt frowned upon much 2000. I have health issues since then due to that & prevent me frm being as productive as i used to be and lost more than my job but also home & family......it shuld b as bad as drinking & driving.... by olivia

Comment: its about time! by Gordon

Comment: Yes, that's an easy one in my opinion! by Travis

Comment: Swerve to the left, slow, swerve to the right. Slower. Send. Lookup, straiten up, and speed up. Texting and driving is a dead giveaway and they dont even know it! by Caleb

Comment: I still see alot of ppl txting here in San Antonio. Its a big distraction for all that drive. by Clarissa

Comment: Common sense safety. I don't care if you hit a tree, but I do care if you hit me. You don't have that right. It is a shame that you have to have a law because people are too stupid to understand the danger.

Comment: Uh yeah! When you're behind the wheel, ALL you SHOULD be doing is driving. When will people learn?! If it is truly important...call someone! by anna

Comment: No one should be using phone while driving. There are enough hands free devices and we are one of the few states that don't enforce hands free. by Sharlene

Comment: Especially dangerous for people working or changing flat tire on disabled vehicle on median of highway, should have same law as for police, switch lanes or slow down. by Richard

Comment: Some people are not cautious drivers and texting only makes it more dangerous! by Yolie

Comment: Are you kidding? How many people do you think are killed on Texas highways every month from texting? We need responsible drivers, texting and driving is not responsible, period. by Allan

Comment: Talking on the phone ( while Driving ) is bad enough & should be Hands Free but Texting is a whole lot worse. No one thinks its a major Deal until they Run someone down taking a life. Driving is already an Intense enough Ordeal with all Hot heads ( Road Ragers )out there. Texters only make it more Dangerous for everyone. by Ralph

Comment: if it's that important, then pull over. better yet, have someone else in the car send the message for you. i always do that for my husband. by Mayra

Comment: There is nothing so important that it cannot wait for you to get to your destination. You are putting yourself and those around you at unnecessary risk. It can wait. by crystal

Comment: The statewide ban on texting while driving is needed and it should not be limited to just texting. The ban needs to include all uses of mobile devices, from texting to talking. In addition, the legislature needs to give this law some really serious consequences for drivers if they are caught. I commute from Schertz to Round Rock daily for my job and I have lost track of the number of drivers on IH-35 that I have seen causing traffic problems because they were too busy talking on their phones, surfing the web, texting, etc. by Stephen

Comment: Yes,it should be . make our streets n highways safer by Robert

Comment: I feel the government is over reaching it's authority. However, if someone kills another person, they should face heavy penalties. by Christopher
