Comment: They should only be allowed to buy the basics. Food with nutritional value. Not junk food. I usually see them buying crap at corner stores. Its a resource for low income not a luxury. Limit that Obama. Also drug screen participants. by Jose
Comment: And to receive these benefits you should have to pass a drug test and be actively looking for a job. by Trish

Comment: Who cares if it eliminates sales at any store?! That is NOT the purpose of a food card. Absolutely NO soda, candy, chips, and the like. It's time for us taxpayers to take a stand! Moochers!!!!! by Dan
Comment: because alot of things people buy is uncalled for is just like WIC what do they give you on wic??? food stamps should be for food not junk food but others think different cookies, chips, ice cream, sodas, candy,if it has nothing to do with healthy food chop it by angel
Comment: The program is for Suplimental Nutrition, not for junk food. Its a free ride on the taxpayers dime, law makers can place ANY restriction we, the people, want on it. by Al

Comment: If you use a Lone Star Card it should be used for food that will nourish the body and sustain you. Chips, candy and soda are unnecessary and do not provide any valuable nutrition. by Debra
Comment: they should ban many more so called "junk foods" also. The lone star card should be used to feed your family, not for snacks. I work for my money and I buy junk food after I feed my family.
Comment: If you don't like it....get a job or two! And teach your kids to stay in school, not drop out, go to college, learn a trade and don't take the easy way out by having too many kids so you can collect on government assistance.... by A very

Comment: Yes, but they shouldn't eliminate chips, sodas, cookies etc. completely. They should limit how much can be spent on those items. by Rose
Comment: Taxpayers contribute to the less fortunate to keep them from going hungry. Junk food is not only a luxury but is bad for one's health. I don't want to contribute to obesity & its related costs. They can use their own cash if they want junk food, like the rest of us do. by Tricia
Comment: kids are over weigh already and all that junk and sugar is not helping. My taxs dollars are paying for those benifits, so yes that should not be one of the items that they can buy. that store owner or manager is only looking out for himself and not the health of the kids that are eating all that junk food. by bob
Comment: I believe lawmakers should have limited what food items could be on the lonestar from the very start. If a person wants chips, soda and candy. Among other non necessities. They should get a job, or they do without.

Comment: the purpose of assistance is to help you and ydur family have nutritious food. Its not a debit card for junk food. It's like everything , too much assistance out there and they don't use it wisely by connie
Comment: Yes there should be limitations on what food items can be purchased on a Lone Star card. Candy, chips, cookies and soft drinks are junk food, and not necessities. Items such as milk, bread, eggs, meat, fruits would contribute more to healthy eating habits, therefore minimizing health issues and medical expenses . by Pat
Comment: I saw someone at SAMs buying candy boxes in bulk with a lone star card. These type of purchases should not be allowed! It is unfair for tax payers who work day in and day out to make ends meet.
Comment: No junk food i.e soda water, chips, candy, pastries, by Mary
Comment: Yes, because its the only way to keep kids healthy. by Julia
Comment: I see the injustice happpen day in and day out. I'll go to a convenience store and I always witness a person with the LSC buy candies, sodas, chips, unhealthy items with the card that hardworking taxpayers provide for the underpriviledged. Its supposed to be for food. FOOD! In my opinion, we are making things worse because then we'll, taxpayers, will have to pay their dental and medical bills for making such bad choices provided by the taxpayers. Ofcourse we should put a limit on what kind of junk food they are allowed to purchase. Also, I see parents buy their cigarettes and beer with cash money and then they buy their kids the junk food with the Lone Star Card. It happens all the time. So, please, law makers put a stop to this rediculousness. We, hardworking Americans, ask that the right thing is done. We're supposed to help and help feed the needy not kill the needy with processed foods, sugary drinks, and candy. by R
Comment: The Lone Star card paid for by our taxes should be for necessities and items needed for proper nutrition, growth and development. If they want to eat crap they should do it on their own dime. Junk food is a luxury not a necessity. by Suzanne
Comment: Why should my hard-earned tax dollars pay for someone else's junk food cravings!? If you want to eat cookies, chips, soda and candy, get a job and go buy it w/YOUR money! #thatisall by Lashona

Comment: The gov't has no business telling people what to eat. They are giving supplemental assistance and if they buy chips and soda, that's their business . by Jan
Comment: I think this is just another way of the government feeling like to have power to dictate what people can do. Start with food stamp program then tax on non food stamp by sasha
Comment: I feel like people that receive food stamps should be able to buy any kind of food that they want. There are people out there that work for a living and still get government assistance and they also pay taxes. I think its ridiculous for what they are trying to do. by Nina
