Comment: The kid that shot up a movie theatre in Colorado said he chose that theatre over ones closer to him because that theatre did not allow concealed guns. If our teachers were allowed if they wanted to as CHL holders to carry at work and the public at large were aware of it, whether they did or not would be a deterrent. Because people who shoot other people do not like to be shot back at by their victims. Guns don't kill people crazy people kill people. by Chris

Comment: Good people don't need laws to tell them to act responsibly. Bad people will find away around the laws. by Jessica

Comment: The police can't always be there! by Tom

Comment: I'm a a teacher and I believe I should be able to carry a gun. by Marchus

Comment: without question. if they are entrusted with teaching, they should be entrusted with safety. if they rely on police officers, they have already wasted valuable time (no disrespect to LEA intended). by random

Comment: If you go through all the required state courses an checks, you should be allowed to carry anywhere. by Deb

Comment: Of course. If a teacher has a permit, and wishes to do so, it would be an outstanding deterrent - and safeguard. by Bob

Comment: If there was one person trained correctly in Newtown and one life could have been saved it would be well worth it. I agree 100%. by Geoffrey

Comment: I support them to carry guns, and some teachers may want more police. But we need to protect our children by every mean and there is no budget for more officers. by Ronnie

Comment: If ONE Administrative person was allowed to carry in the school, it could have a difference. If all were certified, many innocent young lives could have been saved. CHL owner. by Gary

Comment: While no one wants guns at any school campus it has become necessary to have a conversation of arming administrators and maybe teachers in order to protect the students. In light of last weeks incident in CT it seems that all the drills and training can not protect our children and with statistics have shown when an intruder is confronted with an armed person the loss of life is GREATLY reduced. It is sad to even think about have to arm our educators but may be necessary to protect our young ones. Hug a teacher today and let them know they are appriciated. by Daniel

Comment: Campus police can not be inside schools all the time as they have other duties with parking, arrest and investigations. A deadly attack takes mere minutes. Armed trained teachers will make the difference and is cost efficient. by T. J.

Comment: As long as they possess a TX CHL and are willing. In a situation as in CT the teacher IS the first responder. by Lou

Comment: actally, anyone with a CHL should be allowed to carry on public school and university campuses. by Eric

Comment: This would be an affordable solution for schools that say they can't afford it. by Mark

Comment: They should but, not all. There should be special classes for them and should be on a register with law enforcement. All these multiple shootings happen at school so teachers should be better trained and some armed to protect our children as well as educate them. by Tara

Comment: Teachers should be able to carry guns as long as they hav ther consealed hand gun licence. by James

Comment: The teachers can better protect the kids and crazy gunman will think twice about doing something like this in a school where they know the teachers are armed! A lot of students and teachers would be living today if someone else had a firearm. by Ron

Comment: Bad people will always be around doing bad thing. Good people just need the right tools to help. It's not a fix all but it could only help. by Carlo

Comment: My wife is a teacher and I fear for her life because they have taken away your right to defend yourself by not allowing you to carry a weapon, and one police officer in a school isn't enough because when seconds count, the police are just minutes away. by Jason

Comment: A trained teacher that has a CHL is a protection for the students. Spending more money on armed gards is a waste of money when the teacher will instinctively protect the children. by cesar

Comment: I think a gunman would have second thoughts of going into a school and shooting if they knew someone can shoot back. by R

Comment: Teachers can and will provide better protection for the students if they have CHL. Money should not be spent on armed guards, but bullet proof glass, and security doors. by Lana

Comment: Teachers with CHL will protect the children. If the principle at the school had a CHL would the gunman have gotten as far? by lj

Comment: As a student at a local college, I think I would feel better (in elementary or high school) if the teachers were there could actually protect us, and not just hide us. by Amana

Comment: Teachers with CHL is a step for the schools to procede with. Bullet proof glass is another quick step that can be installed to protect the students. by C A

Comment: Stun guns,or pepper spray might be a good idea, but maybe just the principle should be allowed to carry a gun. by Crystal

Comment: They will not be walking around with them or showing it off to the kids, but they should be able to deffend themselves if they find themselves and our kids if there ever is another terroristic threat. by Michelle

Comment: I don't think it should be mandatory, but I do think it should be an option. I believe they should be able to carry if they are trained and if they are willing to be armed. I realize they are there to teach, but the likelyhood of having to use it I think is very slim. by Mary

Comment: As long as the teacher is has a CHL, they should be able to carry their gun on campus! by Liz

Comment: I have been saying for years that, yes, teachers should be armed. At the very least, the concealed carry ban on schools needs to be overturned to allow those teachers that are comfortable with CCW to exercise their rights. They've been given the responsibility to maintain the safety of their students. They should take that responsibility seriously. It has been proven time and time again that gun free zones are a complete joke that just encourage murderers to show up there instead of a place where they may be shot back at. It's safer for the gunman for them to be the only one armed. Having a concealed carry weapon does not mean you're looking for a chance to use it. It does not mean you are looking to incite violence. It's to stop the violence of others. It's to mitigate the loss of life as soon as possible. Guns exist. Bad people have them. Closing your eyes and wishing them away does not work. The only solution is parity of force because an armed society is a polite society. by William

Comment: Its only going to create more risk for our children by juanita

Comment: With teachers that don't think twice before striking a student or egging on bullying...what will they do with a gun....shoot first ask? ?? later by kathleen

Comment: Absolutly Not!! More guns are not the solution!! by Naomi

Comment: It's a bad idea because teachers are scared as it is, so leave it to a professional such as a school security officer to carry the weapon and protect the students, and teachers including the entire staff at a school. by WILLIE

Comment: No I think thats a terrible idea as a formal middle school student. by Destiny

Comment: Should only beef up security, more guns out there means more people end up dead. by amanda

Comment: What happens when an out-of-control high school student overpowers the teacher and takes the gun? by Karen

Comment: I'm a retired elementary school principal. Although my heart aches for community of Newton, I think that allowing teachers to carry guns on campus would only worsen the situation. Allocate those resources to increased law enforcement personnel visible throughout the campuses. by Lupe

Comment: This causes a problem with guns accidentally going off or crazy kids taking the guns from the teachers and using them. Why jump to guns why not start by giving staff bear spray (pepper spray) or stun guns. by Ruby

Comment: Teachers carrying guns on campus' will neither improve safety nor the quality of education. The belief that an extremely sad and unfortunate event at one school will be predictable or avoidable in the future by teachers carrying guns is a fallacy. Texans wanting to live and hide behind their guns is doing nothing for our children. Wake up, educate, and come up with real solutions.

Comment: First of all, teachers are there to teach, not provide security. Do you really want a weapon, concealed or not, in close proximity to your young child on a daily basis? I think that counselors, administrators, and other such staff who have less direct contact with children should be able to carry a concealed weapon. However, ultimately, the best measure is for schools to provide live security officers in adequate enough numbers to increase safety. by Joseph

Comment: No guns maybe an armed guard and metal detectors from 8 to 2 so if you walking in with a gun the metal detectable will go off by Vince

Comment: No, I don't think teacher's should be allowed to carry guns on campus just for the fact that lately teachers have also made the news for bullying students and some for molesting them, imagine how bad things can get with them armed! by Gricelda

Comment: Stupid, any child can a get a hold of it or the teacher her/him self can go crazy and shoot. Cant trust noone these days no more! And around our children not good, they have police or security thats smarter. by Jackie

Comment: why not get a security guard.like entering a court house.(armed guard and metal detection at entry). by Alfred

Comment: Not to sure if that will be safe for our children because what if a student or students get ahold of the gun.But what i do think should happen is that every school should have a police officer or security officer in the front and back entrances of the schools for the kids safety.I know that schools have on campus police officers but where are they, when you really need them when they should be there at all times from the begging of school hours till the end of the school day.Security cameras obviously are not enough. If banks can have security officers during there buisness hours to guard and protect peoples money then i feel that they should also have security guards or police officers and protect our children at school.People need to remember that money and other luxry things are replaceable but our lifes or our childresn life are not replaceable. by Caroline

Comment: I believe in permits for people, but in schools it is hard to comprehend. I think it would make children more nervous and wonder....'What is going to happen today'???...Children need to know their safe and not ever give them a sense of being scared. by Carla
