96.45% No
3.54% Yes

Comment: What i dont understand is where are they getting a laptop or computer or top dollar phone to use this free wi-fi if they can afford those luxuries than they can pay for wi-fi like the rest of us!! Its just not fair if they are in need to look for a job hello people get your butts out of bed and go look for one!! Or even at that can go to a workforce where they allow you to get on the internet!! by otilia

Comment: They need to go to the public library by bob

Comment: How fair would that be... Why not consider returning school buses to all homes instead and reducing the carbon inprint by Victoria

Comment: Enough is enough. Let' hold American citizens accountable for their children's needs. by Meg

Comment: Not only no but hell no! People living in government housing did not earn the right to access the Internet free of charge. Perhaps there can be some low-cost alternative where they pay $10 a month to access the Internet, but they do NOT get to use the Internet for free. I would, however, say that Habitat for Humanity families do deserve at least one year of free Internet, because they have done a lot to deserve what they have and that one full year of free Internet access. by Diane

Comment: what is the matter with people today? are you going to buy them a computer also? by dennis

Comment: Internet access is no longer a luxury but a necessity in our society. Wi-Fi should be made available to all, especially those that need it to look for jobs, do homework, and pay bills. by Sirena

Comment: Providing one more free service in the name of the children is more evidence of the slippery slope that is welfare. Where will we draw the line on just what entitlements children must have? Life isn't fair. All children will not be given an equal shot. Giving resources to one group requires taking them from another. by Michael

Comment: The resident they were interviewing was wearing a pair of oakleys on his head yet talking about how it woukd help his children. Give up the expensive glasses and provide for your children instead of wanting others to provide for you and the,. by Robert

Comment: I don't even have wifi because I can't afford it , but I'm going to pay for some one else's ?? I don't think so. by Chris

Comment: We give them plenty it is the parents choice to live there when does it end

Comment: So what's the difference just cause we live in a house doesn't mean we can afford Internet so will the city provide it for me. If they have money for drugs luxury purses and nice cars they can pay for Internet like someone said that's a luxury not a necessity by Hardworking

Comment: tax payers are already paying more than needed, this is a poor way to use tax payers money, we should focus on getting government residents less dependent on goverment help not make it more convenient. by jaz

Comment: WiFi is a luxury not a need. I was a person in need at one point and the NEED for WiFi never occurred. There are public libraries that provide it. I believe they should pay for it if they want it by Becky

Comment: Theres plenty of places that have free wi-fi

Comment: If we continue to provide everything for the unfortunate, what motivation due they have to better their position in the community.

Comment: I don't think the city should provide Wi-fi to government housing. I feel that our tax dollars are already providing them with enough. There are plenty of libraries that have Wi-Fi capability if they were to need it. It seems we keep on providing them with ammenities that are not necessary. by Gio

Comment: The kids have complete access in their school - they are NOT entitled to further tax dollars just because some liberal wants to "redistribute the wealth" of those PAYING taxes..... If the parents of these kids were responsible they would go out and find a job so they would HAVE the funds to pay for Internet access. They have Laptops that cost at least 100 times more than monthly Internet access! It is high time we started looking at the costs to the taxpayer with all these people living off the government dole. It seriously needs to stop. by Aubrey

Comment: "Gimme, gimme, gimme. I need not work for anything for my Uncle Same will provide me with everything I need...and want". It is NOT fair to those who must pay for EVERY need and luxury. I do not have a smart phone as it is not within my budget for I must pay taxes to house, feed, and now wi-fi those not willing to sacrifice for those basic comodities and luxuries (wi-fi). "Ask not what the government can do for you, but what you can do for your government"...and self. Tom

Comment: No we shouldn't pay for wifi the guy in the interview was a perfect example he lives in public housing if he can afford a pair of Oakley's he can afford wifi!

Comment: It's more of a necessity than a luxury in today's society. It benefits children who don't have access to the internet for homework tutoring online and researching public libraries for periodicals if they have limited access for transportation. by Alberto

Comment: If they can afford to pay for cable they can afford Wi-Fi,they pay more for cable and cell phones than they do for rent,,, by Daniel

Comment: Absolutely NOT! Free food, free housing, now free internet?? If they can afford laptops they can pay for Wi-Fi! When does it end? by Candice

Comment: I don't think it should be done because it's a want not a need that's what the library is for and the workforce their is Internet at schools. We could use taxpayers money on better materials in local schools. Also to fix ragdy schools.Drug testing the people that are getting public assistance. by Jose

Comment: The city should ABSOLUTELY NOT provide WiFi for government housing residents! They already receive enough handouts. WiFi is a luxury not a necessity. They can go to the library or other public area to use computers or Internet. The lack of WiFi in their home will not harm the children in any way. They are receiving food, housing, clothing, cell phones, etc from tax payers. Where are we going to draw the line? NO WIFI. I noticed on the broadcast that many of the residents had Dish Network HD. I know for a fact that is not cheap. If they can afford that, they can pay for their own WiFi. by Lisa

Comment: Not a necessity. by ann

Comment: There are needs that and there are wants. When times are tough for anyone, cable and Internet are the first to go. Nobody provides it for those families and their children. The more bills that are covered, the less likely one would be to want to move on. It is like a young adult whose parents cover all their costs and do not require them to be financially responsible for any living expenses. Everyone needs to earn in order to enjoy the fruits of their own financial gains. by Cathy

Comment: This is the reason why many people abuse the system. Why work when the government can take care of you. by Joe

Comment: Why doesn't the government use that money to drug test all the people on welfare and housing?! It's OUR tax money, therefore we should have a say in SOMETHING! This is getting too ridiculous!!!! by steve

Comment: Free housing is enough. by Mark

Comment: Us taxpayers give them enough already! They get free health care, get housing assistants, and food assistants! There are plenty of locations with free wifi, mcdonalds, library, schools, etc. Stop being lazy! I work 10-12 hour days and it seems like these people still live better than me. They get everything free or have some sort of assistants! by Nicolas

Comment: thats why we have public libraries. by a

Comment: too many handouts and quit enabling and give them workshops to obtain jobs also the man interviewed with oakleys who is a resident should have some shame and work for a living.

Comment: Ive worked for the San Antonio Housing authority for 8 years and do u really think buy giving wi fi is gonna make things better ..I DONT THINKS SO ,, its just another reason for them to stay home and live of the TAX PAYERS MONEY ,,Try to say its for they kids lmao! think about it kids are in school for 8am TO 3pm and after the food stamps are gone..HOME COMPUTER ,MEET PAWN SHOP by RAUL

Comment: No, that is why San Antonio parents have city - public libraries available for computer use for adults and children - kids..FREE !!!! by Tony

Comment: it's a luxury. WE DON'T HAVE IT in our home! Public libraries have that service, isn't FREE CELLS, FREE LUNCH, FREE HOUSING, FREE MEDICAL, FREE DENTAL...you getting the PICTURE, ENOUGH! MY SON HAS TO DO Without. THIS proposal is not far to those who have to pay! Seriously! Next we will be buying them a house and providing a chef for healthy eating and babysitting oh wait we already provide free childcare...oooopppps. Again...you get the picture. by Art

Comment: Why do tax payers have to give more free luxuries to anyone. We sacrifice and work hard to have the luxuries that we have. And we do without if we can't pay for it ourselves.Everyone should try harder to stop the maddness of FREE luxuries. by anna marie

Comment: They already get reduced rent, food stamps, free healthcare, really? Get real people. by ALICIA

Comment: How much more do we need to do why don't we throwing H B O and show time to . How much more free do we have provide by Steve

Comment: They are receiving more than enough assistants, it is the parents responsibility to purchase! I don't agree with this by Steven

Comment: As a single mom of 2 kids and no assistance, I provide internet for my kids because its a luxury. If I can do it, they can also. We do not let these people try and get their life in order. We continue to be their crutch. They have public libraries to provide free wifi. Also most places offer wifi. They have options, just to lazy to get up and get it. No they should not continue to provide a free life for government housing. by lori

Comment: that is a luxury by marissa

Comment: No!! I work hard for my money, pay all my own bills, ie no government assistance, and I can't afford to have the internet!! Why should they get it for free?!? Don't say because their kids need it for school, because mine do too & have not had it. We usually just go to someone's house if they need it that particular day of weekend! by Erica

Comment: It's a luxury not a necessity by Alexis

Comment: I think some people get enough help from the government and take advantage of it. I understand if you fall into a problem and need help then sure get help with assistance. by Amber

Comment: Absolutely not! My husband and I have to work out hands to the bone to pay our bills and Internet is one of them. Why should they get it for free?! by Farrin

Comment: Your giving people a reason to STAY on public housing! Give them motivation && MAkE them work! by Gloria

Comment: Thats why we have librarys for our kids can go and do homework. by esmeralda

Comment: Maybe with that a lot of parents might go to school by vangie

Comment: They get enough already .Whats next an automobile. by Paul

Comment: It is not a necessity and there are several places that have free internet access available for the public. Children can do homework at a library and adults can look for a job at the Texas Workforce Commission. You can even get free wifi access at certain fast food restaurants like McDonald's. by Vanessa

Comment: Wifi can keep phones updated and also provide internet for children whose parents can't afford or have the extra funds for internet. The kids can finish homework at home instead of worrying about getting a ride to a public library etc. schools have been gifting laptops to students for a few years now. by Sylvia

Comment: I feel like there is ample opportunity for people in gov funded housing to use free Internet services at places like the library etc. I kinda don't think it's right to work 40+ hours a week to pay taxes for someone else to have wifi/Internet when I barely have it myself by Rendi

Comment: mitt romney right. we have become a gimmie, gimmie country. by robert

Comment: No, they should work on getting themselves out of assistance. Have them start paying more money for rent and utilities, and then give them that option to pay for wifi. by Crystal

Comment: They already get enough! They need to start drug testing everyone once a month random. by Amy

Comment: IT IS NOT NEEDED. WE HAVE PAID TAXES FOR FREE INTERNET IN PUBLIC BUILDINGS, THESE ARE APARTMENTS, LET THEM USE THE LIBRARY, THEY NEED TO BE READING BOOKS NOT SURFING THE WEB. by chuck

Comment: And thats coming from a saha resident! by Krystal

Comment: Wifi is a luxury not a necessity, even in these days of technology. Food, housing, and medical care are necessities. by stephanie

Comment: It will be fair for low income because they're struggle with budget so free wifi will be wonderful and feel fair by michelle

Comment: Sick and tired of government giving people who are on assistance so many benefits as free WiFi or a cell phone. Half of the people just sell their food stamps and don't even take care of their kids. What about people who work hard and yet we don't get a thing as to free wifi! The government needs their stuff right!!! by yvonne

Comment: WiFi is a benefit, not a necessity. I totally support helping those that NEED help, but not those who expect me to pay their way when they refuse to help themself. by Tammy

Comment: I live in public housing and I think we should have it because I'm going to college and sometimes I need to look up research and I can't.. it would really help If we had WiFi by melissa

Comment: Is the government willing to provide Wi Fi to the general public? I doubt it...that's what the public libraries are for. Such a thing is a luxury not a necessity. by Cynthia

Comment: That's not a necessity, that's a luxury. They should have to pay for luxuries since they are not paying for anything else. by Sabrina

Comment: Wifi is not a necessity; it is an extra luxury. If they want free wifi, go to the library or McDonalds. Better yet, get a job at McDonalds to pay for it yourself. Don't shove another cost on taxpayers. by Katrina

Comment: No they already get enough help with paying low cost on rent or close to nothing. They need to drug test them and make sure they have a job. They don't need free wifi that would just encourage them to sit around and not work. by florinda

Comment: If they can afford a computer they shouldn't be in public housing. I can't afford Wi-Fi where I live so why should they get it free. Sounds like Obama has his finger prints all over this give away. by lee

Comment: I have to pay for Internet service..Why should just because they live in Government housing they would get it for free? They already are paying LITTLE to NOTHING to live there..GET A JOB AND PAY FOR YOUR OWN WI-FI..~! by LEAH

Comment: This is ridiculous. Those in government housing shouldn't get things that the tax payers consider a luxury. by Kris

Comment: That is ridiculous. Our system is so abused, the city government would only be giving them, (the abusers), another handout. Quit dipping into taxpayer pockets for things that are not essential. FIX the issues that exist and save us some money, and then you can come to the taxpayers with your stupid ideas. by Saul

Comment: Plenty of computers available at all san antonio library locations.Just another disencentive to stay home instead of work. If they want to actually look for work they can use library or Texas Workforce locations for free access. by Neo

Comment: They need to get out & get a job. I'm sick of people with the mentality of "give me, give me."

Comment: IF THEY CAN AFFORD LAPTOPS, OAKLEY GLASSES, IPHONES, NEW CARS.....THEY CAN AFFORD SERVICE ........I SAY HELLLL NO by FRANK

Comment: No, if I have to pay so should they. I have to pay bills and work to get these things it's a want not a need. by Johnny

Comment: NO! Why! We already subsidize their housing! I understand that some people on Housing are disabled or can't work for some REAL reason. But many of them are just GAMING the system! Who is pushing for this and why, is my Question? Who will benefit? Time Warner? AT&T? Which company will get the contract with the City to provide the Equipment and the Service for this? I work, my wife works and, our government wants MORE of our money, so that they can give it away! HECK NO!!! by Alberto

Comment: No way!! The working class has to pay our own wifi, why should they get it for free??? They already get housing, Lone Star, WIC, etc. The government needs to quit giving them handouts! by Kathy

Comment: There are a lot of hard working people that don't have it or even struggle to pay for it. Why should those on government assistance get it for free? Why not set up a computer lab with tutors that would be a more justified solution. Otherwise people with no motivation would just surf the net all day! by Charlene

Comment: Hell no! My husband and I do not make very much money and pay for our own luxuries...internet being one of them. We work our butts off to get that. Same goes for any kind of assistance..they need to be drug tested! Our jobs do it so they should be too. I know there are some people who bust their butts and need housing, but unfortunately there are more who don't work and just take advantage of government money! Its very upsetting. by Isabel

Comment: Where is incentive in ending the cycyle of Government dependancy? What about building a sense of pride and motivation for working hard and earning the things we have in life? by A.

Comment: My husband works two jobs and i work out of the home. We pay lots of taxes and DO NOT have Wi-Fi. We have a house payment to make. by Rosemarie

Comment: i pay 50.$ a mth, have them pay 4 their. Like all us working people by #########

Comment: no is enough said.

Comment: wifi is a luxury not a necessity. If people need internet access then go to public libraries. Some schools offer it certain times around the campus and for students on campus. by T

Comment: If people in charity housing want Wi-Fi, large flat-screen TVs, cable TV, computers, whatever - they should get jobs and pay for them. by Robert

Comment: I think this is wrong on so many levels. Wi-fi is a want not a need. If they can afford these laptops and Computers then they can afford Wi-fi

Comment: They already receive enough discounted and free benefits on tax payers dollars. If you can afford a laptop computer or tablet then you can afford the internet access for it. Or visit one of the many locations that offer free wifi in their surrounding area. by toni

Comment: Some things you should have to work for. by Chris

Comment: Ummm, isn't that what the public library is for! We already give them cell phones. These are things working people can't afford! If your gonna give it away make it free for everyone!

Comment: Section 8 residents and housing should take a drug test before getting any assistance. Its not fare i have to work hard and not be eligable to get assistance becasuse I don't have children and put myself to college on my own. by shelsea

Comment: they are suppose be poor....... by alex

Comment: If I can't have it in my house because I can bearly pay my mortgage payment then why should they get a luxury like that when I a tax payer can't have it!!! Not fair at all!! They want it then they should work to pay for it... if not then go to the public library like I do!! by Diana

Comment: No!! I've seen people that are in gvt housing with name brand clothing new vehicles top of the line cellphones why do i need to support these people with my hard earned tax money if they can afford all those thing's? im barely making it and most likely will end up getting a 3rd job...so if i can rough it so can they regardless whether or not they have family ... I was raised in the projects and i tell you what we didn't have any kind of luxury no ac, no cable,no junkfood,no fancy clothes,etc,etc..do you know why because we were too poor to afford those things and the government only assisted in only daily life necessities such as food, housing, medical & education and not to put people in the lap of luxury.....despite the fact that we are living in a age of technical advancement internet service is still a luxury and not a necessity.. yes i understand that we are in modern times and society relys heavily on the internet as well the economy itself however as it was already mentioned by several previous comment post there are lots of public places to access free service so why should my money make it easy for them??? also as far as updating housing structures im fine with that however i don't agree with them putting in central air or drop walls for cable services, ,washer and dryer connections, dishwashers, ceiling fans, or huge iron fences they don't need all those things.. by Jason

Comment: Then we'll have to provide them with Computers or IPad's by F

Comment: No. They should be thankful & glad they can live in government housing. Leeches.

Comment: They can buy their own!!!! by Mike

Comment: Worthless welfare trash

Comment: If they do, they shld provide free wifi to everyone. If not then no. by Black

Comment: To be fair, it should be available to everyone, not just government housing residents. by Barbara

Comment: hell no

Comment: Why should they get this service while I am paying almost $40.00 per month? by Blue

Comment: No i dont think housing residents should get wi-fi really come on why dont the government just give them everything free might as well but little does the government know that all these people in housing have lots of luxury and get away with it check on them you will see how much the women on assistance are lying by anonymous

Comment: Absolutely not. The government should only provide what is NEEDED to live a comfortable life. Wifi is not NEEDED...it is a luxury. Sure a lot of things now are available online (shopping, job search, benefit help) but wifi will also lazy some people and it will only be used for pleasure not work. The money for wi-fi could be used for food or shelter. by Roxanna
