Unfortunately, there is a growing trend, especially in the Southern U.S., to diminish and erase the contributions and sacrifices of Latino, or "Hispanic" Americans and Veterans. It is a small concession to allow this monument; it was paid for with the same blood and tears, and is no more racist than other veteran monuments in other parts of the country. The cries and wails of Latino mothers who cried out in Spanish as they squeezed The Flag they were given to replace their sons is no less.
