LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) -- A North Texas sheriff's deputy has been cleared to return to work, two months after he was shot by a paroled inmate suspected of slaying Colorado's prison chief.
Montague County Sheriff Paul Cunningham said Thursday that he's "tickled" deputy James Boyd will be back to work Sunday.
Cunningham a day earlier released a March 21 video from the dashboard camera in Boyd's patrol car along Texas 287. Boyd had pulled over a Cadillac driven by Evan Spencer Ebel. The video shows Boyd approaching the passenger side of Ebel's car and then falling to the ground as four shots ring out.
Ebel sped away and was later killed in a shootout with pursuing officers.
Cunningham says Boyd will start in dispatch in accordance with an agreement with officials at the 27-year-old's rehabilitation center in Dallas.
