The prime suspect in a string of fires across San Antonio is behind bars. 29-year-old Lorenzo Vera faces charges he set the fire that destroyed an elderly woman's home on south San Antonio. Investigators questioned Vera about a fire on Chavaneaux last weekend and in the process they say he admitted to using paper and matches to start the fire at home on Cavalier near Nogalitos on April 10, 2011. No one was hurt but the home was a total loss. Authorities think Vera could be behind several other fire dating back to 2009.
Telephone threat closes UT-Arlington campus
June 19, 2013 13:38 GMT
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- A telephoned threat about a gunman heading to the University of Texas at Arlington has led to the campus being closed and classes canceled as a precaution.
UTA spokeswoman Kristin Sullivan says police are investigating the unconfirmed threat and there was no active incident on campus Wednesday.
Sullivan says a woman called UTA police to say a man with a gun was traveling to the school. Sullivan says no such person has been spotted on campus and police sought the man at another location.
A UTA emergency alert shortly after 7:30 a.m. Wednesday said the campus was closed. Classes and other events were canceled.
Sullivan says several thousand people typically would be on campus for summer classes, camps and other activities. UTA's spring enrollment was nearly 34,000 students.
