District Clerk Blames Jail For Mistaken Release
We have a Fox Follow-up on a story we told you about Monday on how an inmate was mistakenly released from jail. The Bexar County district clerk says an investigation reveals the court was not at fault. Last week, Vincent Barnett was sentenced to five years in prison. District Clerk Donna McKinney tells Fox San Antonio that all the information that was required to keep Barnett in jail
was entered March 7 by the court the same day he was sentenced. However, the Bexar County Jail released him the next day. Barnett was caught and arrested on Saturday. McKinney says, "There was no miscommunication and no paper foul-up on the part of the district clerk's office."  Our attempts to reach the Bexar County Sheriff's Office for comment were unsuccessful.District Clerk Blames Jail For Mistaken Release

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- The Texas Senate has passed a budget, lawmakers have reached a deal on public education changes and Gov. Rick Perry will soon receive a bill requiring drug screening for unemployment benefits.

The Texas Legislature worked Saturday to wrap up regular business before the end of the 83rd Legislative session on Monday.

The Senate approved spending $94.6 billion in general revenue, an 8 percent increase in the two-year budget. That's less than the rate of population growth plus inflation.

The top education policy writers also announced an agreement to cut the number of standardized tests needed for high school graduation from 15 to five. They also changed curriculum standards.

The Legislature has also given final approval to a requirement some people must take a drug test for unemployment benefits.
