Man gets 16 months for attempted arson in Tyler
May 22, 2013 12:25 GMT

TYLER, Texas (AP) -- A building contractor must serve more than a year in prison over a failed attempt to burn an East Texas methadone clinic in a rivalry for patients.

Daniel Kubisty in January pleaded guilty to attempted arson. A federal judge in Tyler on Tuesday sentenced Kubisty to 16 months behind bars.

The owner of a Tyler methadone clinic in December pleaded guilty to attempted arson and murder-for-hire solicitation. Edwards Jacobs in March was sentenced to nearly 16 years in prison over what prosecutors say was competition for patients.

Investigators say Jacobs last year paid Kubisty $3,000 to burn a competitor's clinic.

Kubisty was arrested in March 2012 and a gasoline can was confiscated. Jacobs tried to hire someone to kill Kubisty to block his testimony. That person was cooperating with authorities.
