Construction Project Stopped by Spider Cancelled
By: Fox S.A. Staff

The Texas Department of Transportation is scrapping its plan to help drivers along Highway 151 and Loop 1604 because of a tiny little spider. The agency says it has released the contractor for the project. Construction of an underpass stopped when crews found a rare Braken Bat Cave meshweaver spider. No one had seen the spider in more than 30 years. TXDOT now says it plans to redesign the entire project so that it won't affect the spider. While that happens, crews plan to remove the construction equipment in the area.Construction Project Stopped by Spider Cancelled

Billie Sol Estes to be remembered at funeral
May 18, 2013 10:18 GMT

GRANBURY, Texas (AP) -- Family and friends are set to remember flamboyant swindler Billie Sol Estes, a man whose name was synonymous with Texas-sized schemes, greed and corruption.

The funeral for Estes is set for Saturday afternoon in Granbury, located about 40 miles southwest of Fort Worth. Estes died in his sleep Tuesday at the age of 88.

He became one of the most notorious men in America in 1962, when he was accused of looting a federal crop subsidy program. But he reigned as the state's king of con men for nearly 50 years.

Estes was best known for the scandal that broke out during President John F. Kennedy's administration involving phony financial statements and non-existent fertilizer tanks. Several lower-level agriculture officials resigned and Estes wound up spending several years in prison.
