Members of the House Armed Services committee are touring Lackland Air Force Base in the wake of a sex scandal that led to criminal charges against six instructors. The congressional delegation is meeting with commanders at the Air Force's basic training headquarters to find out how an environment was able to develop where more than 40 female trainees say they had inappropriate relationships with instructors, or were sexually harassed or raped. Five instructors have been convicted and nearly a dozen more are under investigation. Last month, the Air Force put a female commander over the training wing where about 36,000 airmen graduate each year. Democratic congresswomen Jackie Speier, Susan Davis and Loretta Sanchez are visiting the Texas base Tuesday. The Republican chairman of the House committee visited Lackland last month.

2 arrested in Houston shootings that left 2 dead
May 22, 2013 11:54 GMT
HOUSTON (AP) -- Houston police have arrested a second suspect in an apparent botched drug deal that left a boy and a woman dead and the child's father critically hurt.
Investigators say 22-year-old Jerome Godine surrendered Tuesday. Godine was sought on a capital murder warrant in the May 13 attacks.
The gunfire killed 10-year-old Brandon Vu and his father's girlfriend, Le "Lena" Nguyen. Police say Hoai Tranh Vu was shot in the head. Hospital officials Wednesday didn't immediately update the father's condition.
Police last Friday arrested 23-year-old Bobby Austin on a capital murder charge. Online jail records do not list an attorney for Austin, who's being held without bond. Investigators did not immediately provide additional information on the custody of Godine or a lawyer for him.
Two other suspects are sought.
