It took jurors just under an hour to hand down a two year probation sentence for an elderly man who left the scene of a deadly accident. In September 2010, Juan Lopez, 73, hit and killed Super Herebia, 11. The accident happened at Old Highway 90 and 36th Street.
Prosecutors say shortly after killing the boy, Lopez left the scene. Witnesses were able to chase down Lopez and bring him back.
Lopez could have faced up to ten years, but asked jurors for probation. Super's mother, however, wanted a much different punishment.
"I want him to go to prison," said Leticia Alcala. "I lost my son and it's not the same without my son."
A judge ordered Lopez to serve 75 hours of community supervision and take a defensive driving course.

Funeral-goers describe Texas swindler as loving

GRANBURY, Texas (AP) -- Flamboyant swindler Billie Sol Estes' name may be synonymous with Texas-sized schemes, greed and corruption.
But friends and family focused on his loving and generous nature at a funeral Saturday, saying what a paradox he was throughout his life.
About 300 people gathered for Estes' funeral in Granbury, a town ravaged by a deadly tornado earlier this week. Estes died in his sleep Tuesday at the age of 88.
He became one of the most notorious men in America in 1962, when he was accused of looting a federal crop subsidy program. He was Texas' king of con men for nearly 50 years.
Estes was best known for the scandal during President John F. Kennedy's administration involving phony financial statements and non-existent fertilizer tanks. He spent several years in prison.
