Man Killed in North S.A. Crash Identified

Authorities have identified the man killed in a crash on San Antonio's north side. 26-year-old Stuart Brooks died in the crash Saturday. Police say the car he was in took a curve too fast, lost control and skidded sideways before it slammed into a retaining wall at Blanco and Churchill Estates The person driving was flown to University Hospital and according to a police spokesman is still in critical condition.

Longview officer fatally shoots fleeing suspect

LONGVIEW, Texas (AP) -- An East Texas police officer has fatally shot a driver suspected of leaving the scene of an accident and using his fleeing car to hit the officer.
Longview police Officer Kristie Brian says 28-year-old Jose Sifuentes (sih-FWEN'-tays) of Longview died Tuesday at a hospital.
Brian says the officer who was struck Monday night was treated and released from a hospital. His name wasn't immediately released.
Brian says Sifuentes earlier Monday was in a traffic accident and left the scene. A witness called police. The officer who opened fire on Sifuentes was outside his patrol vehicle when he was struck after the fleeing car ran over road spikes and started to turn around.
Police aren't sure why Sifuentes fled. Texas Rangers will help investigate.
Longview is 120 miles east of Dallas.
