Charlotte Helps Children of Couple Killed in Accident
By: Robert Price

Five young children feel the support of a community after losing their parents in a tragic car accident.

Jeremy Ward and Sarah Luna of Atascosa County were killed late last month while driving on FM 1333 just outside Charlotte.

Troopers say a piece of construction equipment came loose from a trailer and slammed into their truck.

Sunday people in their hometown of Charlotte raised money to help their children with new living arrangements.

"We need to make at least an additional couple rooms for the children that are going to be there. This is all in benefit for her children," said cousin Maria Garza.

A fundraiser for Ward and Luna's children was held at the Charlotte Fire Station, where Ward served as a volunteer firefighter.

Parkland takes step toward paying $1.4M settlement
May 23, 2013 14:15 GMT

DALLAS (AP) -- The board of Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas has voted to pay $1.4 million to settle allegations that it defrauded Medicare and Medicaid.

The proposed agreement with the U.S. Justice Department was approved late Wednesday. Parkland does not admit liability in the settlement.

The Dallas Morning News (http://dallasne.ws/12xEWQW ) reports details remain confidential because the settlement faces approval by a federal judge. The Justice Department and the state investigated in response to a 2010 whistle-blower lawsuit filed by a physician.

Board members also approved an integrity agreement to require independent monitoring of Parkland's billing and clinical practices for five years. The hospital collects about $425 million annually from Dallas County taxpayers.

President John F. Kennedy was taken to Parkland when he was fatally shot on Nov. 22, 1963.
