$12M in Taxpayer Money for South Side Development

The city of San Antonio is giving big incentives to a green technology business looking to open shop here.

Brooks Development Authority is in negotiations to sell 86 acres of land to the city's south side to Nexolon America LLC for a manufacturing facility.

It would cost Nexolon $5 million for the land.  Taxpayers though would shell out $12 million to build roads and drainage.

In all, it would be a $17 million deal.  The green manufacturing facility will produce solar panels and create more than 400 manufacturing jobs at an average annual salary of S44,000.

The Nexolon America project is the result of a power purchase agreement between CPS Energy and OCI Solar Power.

City council voted in favor of the taxpayer part of the deal and the incentive package last month.

If Nexolon approves the agreement, it will go before the Brooks Development Authority Board tomorrow for another vote.
