my wife and i cried together last night as we watched karens story on the news.we felt as if we have lost a family member.we followed her fight with cancer on t.v. we found strength in her fight. we just found out last month that my daughter has stage 1 cancer.we used karens fight to show my daughter how not to give up she is only 26 and starts kimo therapy today. to karens family i am so sorry for your loss. but please know that your mom,wife is still helping pepole. I know you are all hurting with the loss of Karen. While I knew her condition had worsened recently, the jolt of actually hearing she was gone caused my heart great sadness. I heard the news after working the 18-Wheeler truck crash on 1-10 very early this morning and the sadness followed me all day.

I met Karen about six years ago at the media hospitality suite at NIOSA. Since then we worked on several stories while I at USAA and spent many fun nights at NIOSA since. Her passion for telling stories to help viewers was inspiring. And man, did she zealously defend the members of the KABB team. I'll never forget watching the local competition on the bank of monitors in your newsroom with her, and laughing at her contempt for the coverage compared to KABBs. Her courage in telling her personal story, clearly helped many woman understand their own risks, and without question helped save lives. The void I'm feeling in my heart, because her life couldn't be saved runs deep. I'm sure my sorrow pales in comparison to yours after losing your colleague.

I followed Karen's story with great interest. My auntie was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer from the outset also. When Fox29 shared that Karen would be trying experimental treatment a few weeks ago,I prayed with all of my heart that it would be a success for her. You see, my auntie, Machiko, lost her battle at around the same time. I hoped with all my heart... Hearing of Karen's passing makes me feel as if I've lost my auntie all over again. I want to tell Karen in Heaven that I thank her from the bottom of my heart for being brave and courageous in the public eye. Her family, also, for supporting her and allowing her to help so many people. A wise friend told me, when my Auntie Machiko died 2 months ago that"Absent from the body, means present with the Lord".
