The stage is set for political action as candidates in the 2014 midterm election square off on key issues affecting the state and nation in five scheduled debates held by the Utah Debate Commission.

 

First up, on Sept. 23,Republican incumbent Rob Bishop faces Democratic challenger Donna McAleer in the First Congressional District face off at Weber State University in Ogden.

 

The second debate, slated for Sept. 25 at Southern Utah University in Cedar City, includes incumbent Chris Stewart, a Republican, and Democratic challenger Luz Robles, a senator in the Utah State Senates First District.

 

On Oct. 1, candidates in the Attorney General race will meet at Brigham Young Universitys Provo campus. The debate between Republican Sean Reyes, who was appointed to the position by Gov.Gary Herbert after the resignation of John Swallow last year, and Democrat Charles Stormont will air live on KUTV 2News.

 

Candidates vying for a seat in the Third Congressional District include Republican incumbent Jason Chaffetz and Democratic challenger Brian Wonnocott. The debate is scheduled for Oct. 7at Utah Valley University in Orem.

 

The fifth and final debate puts Republican Mia Love and challenger Doug Owens, a Democrat, at the podium. The candidates are battling for the Fourth Congressional District seat. The two will meet at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City and will air live on KUTV2News.
