San Antonio Water System customers can expect to see higher bills in the near future.

San Antonio City Council approved an 8.4 percent increase in SAWS rates.

The change goes into effect around March 1.

The average SAWS customer can expect an increase of roughly $3.50 in their bill.

SAWS officials say the increase is necessary to pay for sewage cleaning and the construction of a desalination plant.

The plant, to be built in South Bexar County will provide more water for the city, according to SAWS officials.Council Approves Water Rate Increase
