Is recall effort in Pearsall being ignored?Updated: Friday, May 23 2014, 09:21 AM CDT PEARSALL - Some people living in Pearsall, south of San Antonio, are worried city leaders may try to squash their efforts to recall several city leaders.Recall organizers say they are opposed to the hiring of City Manager Richard Alvarez, who has a criminal past. They organized a petition drive to recall the mayor and three council members who voted to hire him last month.Recall organizers say they collected 900 signatures and turned them in to the city secretary. They claim Alvarez then took the petition signatures and locked them in a room. We're told this is not standard procedure.Calls to Alvarez to ask about the petition signatures have not been returned.Alvarez did speak to Fox San Antonio in April about his criminal history. He says none of his convictions were felony convictions.Alvarez has been convicted in the past on a misdemeanor charge of DWI and two misdemeanor convictions for assault causing bodily injury. He also received deferred adjudication for felony possession of cocaine. He also currently faces a felony charge of cocaine possession and another charge of DWI. He has not been convicted of those pending charges.Alvarez was hired to serve as city manager for two years with an annual salary of $70,000.Is recall effort in Pearsall being ignored?
